How hair grows

Each hair goes through three phases, independently of the ones next to it. That is why losing some hair every day is normal — and why the effects of treatment can only be judged after several months.

When to see a doctor

  • your hair has been falling out clearly more than usual for over 2–3 months,
  • bald patches have appeared, or the hair is thinning on the crown or along the parting,
  • your scalp itches, burns, flakes or is red,
  • heavy shedding started after an illness with fever, childbirth, surgery or major stress,
  • the hair loss comes with other symptoms, such as ongoing tiredness, weight change or irregular periods.
50–100hairs a day are usually shed in the natural cycle
  • Anagen ~86%
2–7 years — growth phase — hair grows about 1 cm a month
  • Catagen ~1%
2–3 weeks — transition phase — the follicle shrinks
  • Telogen ~13%
about 3 months — resting phase — then the hair falls out and a new one grows in its place
Approximate values for a healthy adult scalp; they vary from person to person.

What happens at a first consultation

The first visit takes 60 minutes. Please bring test results from the last 6 months and a list of your medicines. How to prepare.

  1. 0–15 min

    History

When the shedding started, illnesses, medicines and supplements, diet, hair care, family history.

  2. 15–30 min

    Examination

We examine the scalp and hair, do a pull test and assess density.

  3. 30–45 min

    Trichoscopy

A magnified examination of the scalp, with photos saved to your medical records.

  4. 45–60 min

    Plan

We discuss the findings, any tests needed, recommendations and — where indicated — a prescription.

A follow-up visit usually after 3–4 months — that is how long it takes for changes in the hair cycle to show on trichoscopy.

Trichoscopy

A non-invasive, painless examination of the scalp and hair under magnification — usually between a dozen and several dozen times. It shows, among other things, hair thickness, follicle openings and the condition of the scalp.

Photos from the examination are saved in your medical records. At a follow-up visit we compare them with new ones taken in the same places at the same magnification. You can ask for a copy of the photos.

Payment

You pay for the visit at the practice, by card or in cash. For a first consultation we ask for a PLN 100 deposit through a secure Stripe link or by bank transfer — it is taken off the price and refunded in full if you cancel at least 24 hours in advance.
